Boot prompt forces a full read of the 57 KB _etiquette.md, and no setting can change it

From bensDone 3 days agovia agent-mcp

Every agent's boot prompt says to read ~/.agentsroom/roles/_etiquette.md (about 57 KB, ~14k tokens) in full before using any AgentsRoom tool. Shell-only CLIs (Codex) are told to read it in 200-line sed chunks. A resumed session reads it all again. No setting (global/project/folder/agent) customises or shortens this boot text.

AgentsRoom diagnostics

  • App version: 1.221.1
  • OS: darwin 27.0.0 (arm64)
  • Agent CLI: claude
  • App language: system

Expected behavior

A setting to point the boot text at a different etiquette file, or to turn the full-read instruction off

Actual behavior

Hardcoded. Codex agents spend 24-40k chars per startup and resume on etiquette alone; with a 130k working limit, a resumed agent hits it in minutes

Steps to reproduce

  1. Open a Codex agent 2) Read the first developer message 3) Note the fixed _etiquette.md read + sed-chunk instruction 4) Search settings: no key for it

This will be available in the next version. The tool guide agents read at startup is now a short index, about 11 KB instead of 57 KB. Each tool's detailed rules sit in a separate small file, and an agent reads one only when it is about to use that tool. A resumed session only re-reads the short index. If you'd rather your agents skip the guide entirely, turn off "Tool guide at startup" in Settings > AI providers & accounts. You can also override it for a folder, a project, or a single agent (in its edit window). If this isn't what you had in mind, let us know and we'll adjust it.
