The file editor has no in-file find/replace, so every repeated edit is done by hand or bounced to an external editor

Impact. When I open a file in the AgentsRoom editor modal I can scroll and type, but I cannot search for a string or replace occurrences inside the open file. Any repetitive edit — renaming a local variable, swapping a literal used in several places, updating a repeated URL — has to be done manually, occurrence by occurrence. Past a couple of matches the honest move is to close the modal and edit in an external tool, which defeats the point of having an editor in the app.

How I looked: usage only, read-only — I did not inspect the editor's source.

Proposal. A find & replace bar scoped to the open file, opened with the shortcuts every editor already trains: Find = Ctrl+F / Cmd+F, Replace = Ctrl+H / Cmd+Option+F. Must-have controls: replace one, replace all, an occurrence counter (e.g. "3 of 12"), next/previous navigation that scrolls the match into view, and all matches highlighted with the active one distinct. Optional refinements in the same bar: match case, whole word, regex.

Not asking for: project-wide/multi-file search, or find in read-only previews — only find & replace inside the single file open in the editor.

AgentsRoom diagnostics

  • App version: 1.171.0
  • OS: linux 7.0.0-31-generic (x64)
  • Agent CLI: claude
  • MCP server: 1.22.0
  • App language: system

Problem to solve

The AgentsRoom file editor modal offers no way to search — or search-and-replace — inside the file it just opened. Ctrl+F and Ctrl+H do nothing there. So any repetitive in-file edit (rename a repeated token, swap a string used in several places) must be done manually, one occurrence at a time, by visually hunting through the text. Past a couple of matches it is slow and error-prone, and the realistic workaround is to leave the app and edit the file in an external editor instead.

Proposed behavior

Add a find & replace bar scoped to the open file. Shortcuts: Find = Ctrl+F / Cmd+F; Replace = Ctrl+H / Cmd+Option+F. Must-have: replace one, replace all, an occurrence counter (e.g. "3 of 12"), next/previous navigation that scrolls the match into view, and every match highlighted with the active one distinct. Enter / Shift+Enter cycle matches; Esc closes the bar. Optional: match case, whole word, regex. Replace edits the buffer in place and the existing save flow persists it — no new persistence path is needed.

Who benefits

Anyone editing a file in the modal, who wants to rename or bulk-fix a repeated token without leaving AgentsRoom. In particular, the human reviewing what an agent just wrote: tweaking one recurring name before saving stays inside the app instead of bouncing to VS Code. Even a plain "find and jump to match" (no replace) already helps on long files, removing the scroll-and-hunt that makes the current editor painful past one screenful.

Acceptance criteria

Ctrl/Cmd+F opens a find field; typing highlights every match live and shows a running "N of M" count. Ctrl+H (or the Mac equivalent) reveals the replace field with Replace and Replace all. Enter / Shift+Enter cycle next/previous; Esc closes the bar and returns focus to the editor. Replace all rewrites every occurrence in one action. The result: repetitive in-file edits are fast and reliable, and no longer a reason to leave the app.

Thanks: the bug is fixed and the fix ships in the next release. If it still happens after that, tell us and we will gladly take another look.
