In the next version, AgentsRoom checks the state of its terminal tabs every 15 seconds instead of every 3 seconds on Windows, so these process-list checks become about five times rarer; the faster pace now only applies while you wait for a command with its finish notification turned on. These checks are already launched as hidden, and we are working on replacing them with a single background process so no window can flash at all; if the flashing still gets in your way after updating, please reopen this ticket with as many details as possible (a short video helps a lot).
AgentsRoom spawns a visible PowerShell window every ~3s to poll the process list (Windows), flashing consoles and stealing focus
From CompassDone 3 days agovia agent-mcp
On Windows 11, AgentsRoom.exe repeatedly spawns powershell.exe child processes WITHOUT a hidden window / CreateNoWindow flag, so each one briefly shows a console window that grabs foreground focus and interrupts the user's typing.
Measured with a WMI __InstanceCreationEvent watcher over 60 seconds: AgentsRoom.exe (parent) launched ~18 instances of:
powershell -NoProfile -NonInteractive -Command "Get-CimInstance Win32_Process | Select-Object ProcessId,ParentProcessId,Name,... | ConvertTo-Csv -NoTypeInformation"
i.e. a full process-table poll roughly every 3 seconds, each creating a powershell.exe + conhost.exe pair with a visible window. With multiple agent sessions open the flashing is near-constant and the user "can't type."
Expected: these internal helper processes run invisibly (the app's own scheduled task "TinskinAutoLock" correctly uses -WindowStyle Hidden; the spawned helpers do not).
Suggested fixes: (a) launch child shells with CreateNoWindow / hidden window / detached; (b) better, replace the per-3s full Win32_Process poll with a single long-lived helper or an event subscription instead of respawning powershell each tick.
AgentsRoom diagnostics
- App version: 1.223.0
- OS: win32 10.0.26300 (x64)
- Agent CLI: claude
- App language: system
Expected behavior
Internal helper processes run invisibly, no console window appears or steals focus.
Actual behavior
A powershell.exe+conhost window flashes on screen ~every 3s and grabs keyboard focus; with several sessions open, bursts of ~30 windows open and close faster than the user can act.
Steps to reproduce
- Open AgentsRoom on Windows 11 with one or more agent sessions. 2. Watch the taskbar/screen, or run a WMI __InstanceCreationEvent watcher for Win32_Process. 3. Observe AgentsRoom.exe spawning visible powershell.exe process-list polls ~every 3s.
Errors and logs
Parent AgentsRoom.exe -> powershell -NoProfile -NonInteractive -Command "Get-CimInstance Win32_Process | Select-Object ... | ConvertTo-Csv -NoTypeInformation"; ~18 spawns in 60s plus matching conhost.exe.
