Add Project-Specific Assistant

From bensDone 1 week ago

One of the challenges I've found is sending a message to an agent and then accidentally letting the second agent go idle. It would be great to have a kind of 'project owner' agent that's like the global Assistant, but takes ownership of delegation, etc.

What would the global project assistant do ? What do you need him to do exactly ?

  1. The global project assistant would be persistent. This means that a user can quickly identify where to start, pick up after a messy session, etc.
  2. The assistant would delegate and assure task completion, like a router for the beginning and validation of tasks. That means spawning agents, checking for delegate progress, signs of life, frozen/interrupted processes, etc., mandating QC, etc. This is almost like the chief of staff, deciding whether the team of agents is enough or whether there should be more/different ones
  3. The global project assistant would review orphaned/abandoned project mailboxes or project agent mailboxes and address them (do/cancel/delete/finish, etc), as well as turn inbox items into backlog items

Thanks for the detailed breakdown, it shaped the whole feature.

Every project now gets a chief of staff: an agent created automatically when you open the project and shown in its own section at the top of the agent list. It is the project's coordinator. Tell it what you want and it turns the request into a backlog ticket, hands it to the best suited agent, follows up when that agent goes quiet (it sees who is working, idle, blocked or offline, and can bring a closed agent back), has the result checked by someone other than its author, and answers the requests sent to the project inbox. Ask it where things stand to pick up after a messy session. It never writes code, and it asks you before creating a new agent.

The project inbox is also back at the top of the agent list when requests are waiting.

Don't want it in a project? Use the menu of its section (hide in this project or in all projects), or Settings > AI providers & accounts > Chief of staff in every project. Same on the phone.

It ships in the next update. If it doesn't work the way you imagined, tell us and we'll adjust it.

Thanks: your idea is implemented and ships in the next release. We built it the way we pictured it, so if the result is not what you had in mind, tell us and we will adjust it.
