Session Review/Trace mode

From bensDone 2 weeks ago

I'm picturing a timeline where you could see a per-turn trace of what things happened, how many bytes of data were processed, etc, to isolate expensive skills which must be refactored, places where context leaks are occurring, and maybe a running total chart showing the accumulation of tokens during a session across time.

Thanks for the idea, it's built and will ship in the next desktop release.

Where to find it once it's out: click the token counter of an agent (the "N tok" badge next to the send button) to open Session info. The new Session trace section sits right under the context window gauge. Click its title to unfold it (it remembers your choice), and use the expand icon to open it in a larger view. It is also one click away from the conversation view's toolbar.

What it shows:

  • every turn in order, with each tool call, the bytes that came back into the context and how many tokens each one added;
  • "What filled the context": a ranking over the whole session of tools, skills, MCP tools, sub-agents and injected context (CLAUDE.md, hook output, system reminders), to spot the skill that needs refactoring;
  • "Biggest single additions": where the context grew the most in one go, the usual place a leak hides;
  • two charts over time: the context window size after each request, and the running total of billed tokens.

It works for Claude Code and Codex sessions (measured from the billed usage of each request), and for Antigravity in bytes, since its CLI does not record token usage. Everything is computed locally from the CLI's transcript, nothing leaves your machine.

Thanks: your idea is implemented and ships in the next release. We built it the way we pictured it, so if the result is not what you had in mind, tell us and we will adjust it.
