Set custom agent avatars once and reuse them across projects

From RawDone 1 week ago

I reuse the same agents across multiple projects, but currently have to assign their custom thumbnails manually in each project. This is tedious and makes consistent visual identification unnecessarily difficult.

Please allow an avatar to be saved on an account-level agent definition and automatically inherited whenever that agent is added or imported into a project. Allow existing instances to adopt the shared avatar, while retaining optional per-project overrides.

Updating the global avatar should update instances that inherit it, without changing their prompts, models or histories. The thumbnails should appear consistently on desktop and iOS.

Thanks Jack, this is now implemented and will ship in the next desktop update.

How it works:

  • Give a saved agent (Your agents) an avatar once: open its editor and use the pencil on the avatar to upload an image or pick a preset.
  • Every agent you add from that saved agent follows its avatar automatically.
  • For agents that already exist in your projects: Edit agent > Avatar > Customize avatar > "From your agents", pick the saved agent's avatar and save. The line under the avatar then says which saved agent it follows.
  • Change the avatar on the saved agent later and every agent that follows it updates in all your projects. Only the avatar changes: prompts, models and conversations are left untouched.
  • Want a different picture in one project? Just pick another avatar (preset, upload or default) on that agent: it keeps its own and stops following.
  • The phone now shows each agent's custom avatar too, the same as the desktop.

One note: a project you have not opened since the change catches up the next time you open it on one of your computers.

If this is not quite how you imagined it, tell us and we will adjust it.

Thanks: your idea is implemented and ships in the next release. We built it the way we pictured it, so if the result is not what you had in mind, tell us and we will adjust it.
